The Power of WordPress and How You Can Benefit From It
My objective in this article is to talk about why Wordpress is an invaluable tool for online business building and why anyone starting out in online business should give this tool a serious consideration.
My first encounter with WordPress happened after disaster struck my earlier site. I hosted my own domain on blogger. When the domain registration expired I neglected to renew it for all of a day. When I finally got down to actually renewing it I found to my horror that someone else had taken it over. Internet squatters who benefit from the hard work of others.
I had been considering using WordPress in the past but this incident got me to finally take action.
WordPress comes in two flavors. In one flavor your site is hosted on . In the other and more powerful flavor you host WordPress on your own site. The latter option was intimidating even to an Information Technology veteran like me. But it really is not that difficult.

It takes about 10 minutes to install WordPress software on your own site. If you are lucky enough to have a hosting service that uses 'Fantastico' software you can do it even more easily, in all of a few seconds.
Considering the power of WordPress, this is an unbelievable return on your investment of time and effort.
To effectively leverage WordPress you must use it right from the beginning. From the time you create your online presence.
Now I will briefly explain to you how I use WordPress on my own site,
I run a newsletter service where I distribute the finest handpicked self help eBooks for free to my subscribers.
First a bit of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) I use only three levels of folder structure. Any deeper and the search engines just will not crawl it.
At the highest level sits the domain .
Luckily my hosting service offers the 'Fantastico' in the control panel. Using this service I quickly installed WordPress at each of the three websites that I mentioned above.
I use the primary domain as a landing page for subscriber opt ins.
But it is this site '' where WordPress really boosted my productivity. Previously I used to create and format each download page and insert ads in it all by hand. Not only did it take a lot of time and effort , about four hours for each page, but whenever I had to change my ads I would have to go back and modify each page by hand.
With WordPress all I need to do is to write once and post it. The ads are in the template file so I only have to modify one file for the changes to be reflected in all download pages instantly. Nor do I have to worry about formatting.
Before I leave you I want to mention two features of Wordpress that have made this such a powerful and popular platform. These are 'themes' and 'plugins'.
I will elaborate more on these in a later article. But to give you a taste of the power here are some of the things I do on my website without writing a single line of code:
- password protect my downloads so that only the registered subscribers can download it.
- keep track of how many times each eBook has been downloaded.
- backup my Wordpress site and email it to myself
- an opt in form on each of my blog posts to enroll more subscribers
- Automatically send a tweet to my twitter profile whenever i post a new eBook or blog post.
- Remove spam comments
- Automatically suggest powerful tags for my content
... and more.
Cool stuff right!
You need to be resourceful to be succeed and WordPress is a great bundle of resources.
